The Artist

Jill is an avid wildlife and sports photographer—no matter what, she always finds her way to where the action is! Jill studied at Prairie View School of Photography in Winnipeg. Since then, she has photographed for weddings, fashion shows, wilderness tours, and many more. After finishing school, Jill fell in love with the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia both for their beauty and for the abundance of undisturbed nature for her to explore.
Jill grew up spending summers at Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario and she found there a passion for being in nature and observing wildlife. Jill loves the freedom and peace of nature, and this has given her an uncanny knack for getting up close to animals and snapping their photo. This has provided her the oppurtunity to photograph wildlife in surprising places, as she spots them where others fail to notice.

The Artists Story
It all started when I was very young. I had a passion for art and creating it. I soon realized that this was what I needed and wanted to be doing the rest of my life. I discovered my interest for photography in 1998. That's when my family and I drove from Winnipeg to Toronto. The little crayola camera I used the entire time, didn't snap a single photograph. From that point on I vowed to get those photos back and never let it happen again. It was a couple years later, 12 years old, that I began to study in a darkroom and focus a lot more time into learning the craft of photography.
In high school I had an amazing mentor that saw my determination to create and he further excelled me, helping arrange exhibits and finding contract work. I continued my studies in the darkroom and began learning more about the digital world of photography. I took evening photography courses during high school. After graduating I went on to the University of Manitoba to study Fine Art. After spending a couple years in the program I switched to PrairieView School of Photography, to further learn the world of photography. The program was incredible! Weekends and evenings were spent photographing sporting events, such as the Manitoba Moose Hockey team, and the Professional Bull Riding. Also working for The Uniter newspaper as their sports photographer, being named Photographer of the Year in 2010. When finished my degree I began exploring the wilderness more and more, That's when I went on a trip to B.C.. I was in love. I came back to WInnipeg determined to go West. A week after the trip I had packed up everything and started driving across the country. I now reside in Squamish, British Columbia working as a Painter, photographer, and artist. Now living on a farm with my 7 dogs, and many coyotes, bears, and the occasional cougar. LIving in a place so beautiful has truly inspired me and drives my hunger to get the perfect shot!!
